For Tom Porter, Giving is a Family Matter
This editorial highlights the environmental journey and impact of Tom Porter, a retired venture capitalist whose early connection to nature—nurtured by his botanist father—sparked a lifelong commitment to conservation. Through The Porter Family Foundation, which he runs with his children, Tom has supported 28 Michigan-based organizations focused on climate action, Great Lakes protection, and environmental justice. A former board member of the Michigan Environmental Council, Tom remains a steadfast supporter, helping to launch initiatives like the Michigan Climate Action Network and a Community of Practice for BIPOC environmental leaders. His story reflects the power of intentional, family-led philanthropy to create lasting change for people and the planet.
