Cody joined the Michigan Environmental Council in January 2025 as the Creative & Digital Communications Coordinator. He leverages his skills in digital storytelling and graphic design to enhance the Environmental Council’s advocacy efforts, galvanize donor support, and amplify the impact of bold policy campaigns.
Before joining the Environmental Council, Cody was the communications and development coordinator for Food 4 Farmers, a nonprofit dedicated to combating food insecurity in farming communities across Latin America. There, he developed and implemented a comprehensive marketing and stewardship strategy that deepened donor relationships and supported critical fundraising efforts.
Cody’s professional journey also includes a tenure as project manager at the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan, where he managed renewable energy, public health and economic development projects in low- and middle-income countries. Earlier in his career, he worked in business development, marketing and green coffee buying for several specialty coffee companies, deepening his connection to sustainable agriculture.
While pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Food Systems from Grand Valley State University, Cody learned to collaborate with community leaders to develop innovative solutions at the intersection of food and the environment. Recently, he expanded his expertise through an executive certificate program in nonprofit fund development from the University of Notre Dame.
Currently residing in Ferndale, his favorite Michigan pastimes include exploring Detroit’s ever-evolving food scene, swimming at Belle Isle during the summer and travelling north to camp along the shores of Lake Michigan. At home, his free time is often spent refining his sourdough bread, dabbling with ambient music production and diving deeper into his yoga practice.
