The Michigan Environmental Council Action Fund is revamping Michigan’s beloved bottle-and-can recycling system, the Bottle Bill, through a ballot initiative. Jaime directs its fundraising, ensures its legal compliance, and helps align its resources to make the most of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen and expand the state’s unusually effective recycling program.
Jaime joined the Environmental Council in May 2025 after serving a term as a member of the Michigan House in the highly competitive District 27, covering much of the Downriver area south of Detroit. She also advanced public education, improved local infrastructure, expanded healthcare access and promoted environmental justice, garnering her a 100% pro-environment vote by the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.
Prior to being an elected official, Jaime was an elementary school teacher for 10 years, educating students on English Language Arts, math and STEM subjects. She also organized camps for students, helped plan district-wide curriculums and promoted positive classroom behavior.
Rounding out Jaime’s experiences are a bachelor’s degree in integrated science and elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership, both from Madonna University.
Outside of work, Jaime enjoys traveling, creating art, and spending time with family, friends and her rescue dog, Buck, in Downriver.
