Elayne Coleman joined the Michigan Environmental Council Board of Directors in 2025.
Coleman is the director of Sierra Club Michigan Chapter, one of the state’s oldest and strongest environmental organizations which co-founded the Environmental Council in 1980. She has directed the organization to help bring over 150,000 citizens to action on behalf of the Great Lakes State’s health and heritage.
Prior, Coleman was Sierra Club Michigan Chapter’s green stormwater infrastructure community organizer, public spaces coordinator for member group Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and the sustainability coordinator for Williams College in Massachusetts. At these places she developed, planned and executive volunteer programs to improve our natural and built environments alike.
Rounding out Coleman’s experiences are a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences from Emory University and a master of business administration from Wayne State University.
