Contact

Bill Wood joined the Environmental Council staff in September 2024 to create a powerful, well-connected and diverse environmental movement. He oversees the Environmental Council’s member organizations and oversees guiding and implementing diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the movement.

This is not Bill’s first stint with the Environmental Council. He was a member of its Board of Directors from 2017 to 2024, most recently as a vice chair. There, he helped oversee a leadership transition, a new strategic plan and a new brand.

While on the Board, Bill served as a member group representative for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council, of which he was executive director for nearly eight years. Prior, he served as a ReStore manager and executive director of Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area in Pennsylvania and as the deconstruction manager for Lexington Habitat for Humanity in Kentucky.

Rounding out Bill’s experiences are a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Kentucky.

When time allows, Bill still volunteers with his local Habitat for Humanity material recovery crew. He also serves as an executive member of the Pigeon River Country Advisory Council. Bill is a member of Muskegon Conservation Club and Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association.

Bill’s love for Michigan’s environment extends into his leisure time. He enjoys kayaking, sailing, swimming, backpacking, snowshoeing, camping and cooking. He also enjoys live music, pinball and learning about Michigan’s history.
