Internships: Policy, Communications and Operations
The Michigan Environmental Council offers hands-on internships for passionate individuals in environmental policy, advocacy and nonprofit operations, providing meaningful work, mentorship and professional development.
Current Opportunities:
- Land & Wildlife Policy Internship: Emphasizes policy research, grassroots engagement, and advocacy event planning for land and wildlife issues. Interns will learn to interpret state legislation, engage with lawmakers, deepen policy knowledge, and create deliverables like a critical dunes one-pager and a policy brief on shoreline hardening or neonics.
- Water Policy Internship: Advance water policy in Michigan by supporting MEC’s water division in developing policy proposals, planning events, and engaging decision makers. Our work will help to defend Michigan’s water quality and quantity through education and engagement.
- Public and Environmental Health Policy Internship: Aligning with health in all policies and environmental justice frameworks, you will support policy research and coalition development related to public and environmental health issues. Interns will support a range of smaller, evolving projects rather than one large initiative.
- Communications Internship: Support MEC’s communications team in content creation, design, and nonprofit communications strategy for print, digital, and social platforms. Interns build a portfolio while learning how communications drive advocacy.
