We are proud to honor Rosina Bierbaum with this year’s Helen and William Milliken Distinguished Service Award. She spent a decade as the forward-looking dean of the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment. Her influence extends far beyond the Great Lake State all the way to the Oval Office—where she advises the Obama administration on science and environmental matters—and the World Bank, where she’s helping to chart a low-carbon path to alleviating poverty in developing nations.
Blair Miller, nominated by the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, will receive the 2012 Petoskey Prize for Environmental Leadership. Miller’s enthusiasm, resourcefulness and old-fashioned hard work turned an unused rail corridor into a recreational asset, while protecting a virtually undisturbed portion of the Thornapple River watershed.
We hope you will join us in honoring these two inspiring leaders while enjoying great food, cocktails and wonderful conversation. Your support of our annual awards celebration will provide vital assistance to our efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of Michigan’s people and places.
