Quadruple Your Money for Clean Energy -- Give Online Now

Oct 25, 2010
Dear friend of MEC,

It's down to the wire on Proposal 3 -- the renewable energy campaign. Your financial support TODAY can make the difference between winning and losing.

We're going to turn every $1 you give MEC before 5 p.m. Friday into $4 of support for Prop 3. Another donor has stepped forward to match contributions made to the Prop 3 campaign. MEC will match your gift dollar-for-dollar and then the donor will match the sum. It's simple, powerful math: $1 + $1 = $2 + $2 = $4.

You've seen and heard their ads. The utilities are sparing no expense to deceive and scare voters. Your contribution now will help us stand strong. Together, we can give the Prop 3 campaign the resources it needs to go toe-to-toe with the utilities from now until November 6.

Proposal 3 will require Michigan to generate 25% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025 (with a cost cap that limits rate increases to 1% ). By replacing a share of Michigan’s dirty coal power with electricity generated from clean renewable sources, our state will:
  • Create 94,000 jobs for Michigan workers in manufacturing, construction and maintenance. These are jobs that can’t be outsourced;
  • Reduce premature deaths and illnesses associated with coal power plant pollution (and the annual $1.5 billion in related health care costs);
  • Provide a more balanced and resilient energy mix for Michigan, which currently relies on increasingly expensive coal for almost 60 percent of electricity generation;
  • Cut Michigan’s $1.5 billion bill for importing coal from other states, keeping more of that money in Michigan to invest in clean energy industries; and
  • Fulfill our urgent responsibility to curb greenhouse gas emissions that are changing our climate in potentially devastating ways.

If you haven’t already, get informed and spread the word. Every little bit helps. We need the votes of your family, friends and neighbors to succeed. Thank you very much for your support of MEC and concern for our environment. We hope you will take advantage of this important opportunity for renewable energy TODAY!
