Both the House and the Senate are back in session this week after a brief in-district work period. A few bills will be up in committees this week, and we expect the last decisions to be made on budgets at the subcommittee level.

Transportation will meet on Thursday (4/20) at 8:30 am to take up among other bills:
HB 4167 ­– A bill that would increase the length limit of trucks hauling drainage tile to 75 feet

House

HB 4070 – A bill that would have the state pay attorney’s fees if the state made an inappropriate taking of property

HB 4082 – A bill to require notice to locals before the DNR does a prescribed burn

On the floor:

SB 119 - Would convey a parcel of land to Northern Michigan University for $1 for the purposes of forensic anthropology activities

SCR 6 - A concurrent resolution to memorialize the Congress of the United States to appropriate funds from the Nuclear Waste Fund for the establishment of a permanent repository for high-level nuclear waste or reimburse electric utility customers that paid into the fund.

SCR 8 - A concurrent resolution to urge the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to fulfill their obligation to establish a permanent solution for handling high-level nuclear waste.

SCR 9 - A concurrent resolution to urge the President and Congress of the United States to explore and support policies that will lead to the establishment of facilities within the United States for the reprocessing and recycling of spent nuclear fuel.

SB 129 – A bill that would set up a separate regulatory scheme for native copper mines underneath a certain acreage and tonnage cap

HB 4286 – A bill to provide for a way to add or remove districts from an intercounty drain district

Natural Resources will meet on Wednesday (4/19) at 9:00 am to take up among other items:

SB 118 - A bill that would have the DNR take on liability when purchasing a railway to turn into a trail
